This year, I set myself a challenge to read 12 books in a year. Then, after 6 months, I realised that I’d reached my target of reading 12 books, and upped my game to 24 books in a year. This is the 18th book I read. My other mini reviews are also on this blog. I can’t promise they’re any good.
After reading Crimson Petal and the White and LOVING it, I was very chuffed to hear that there was a follow up book of short stories which gave some insight into what happened to each of the characters. This was the first book in a long long time where I was left wondering what the characters were up to, long after I’d finished reading the book. Does anyone else do that? Am I just a little odd? Probably. In any case, I was looking forward to the follow up.
I was surprised to see that some of the stories went back in time, and some were set further in the future than I had imagined. I can say very little without giving away some important bits of information about the fates of the main characters, but I will say this: I was disappointed not to hear more about a certain main character, and even more disappointed that one character’s fate wasn’t covered at all.
Beyond the storyline, I think the book cleverly played around with some ideas of perceived good vs perceived evil, the fickleness of your standing in society and the impact of greed, but you’ll just need to read the book for yourself to find out what happens. Massive thumbs up if you’ve read and enjoyed Crimson Petal, but if you didn’t, or you haven’t got round to reading Crimson Petal yet, it’s not worth your time.
